Egremont and two other Southern Berkshire towns will benefit this fiscal year from a $1.5M grant awarded by the Healey/Driscoll Administration under the Massachusetts Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program. Egremont will serve as both the administrator of the grant and a recipient.
The CDBG helps eligible cities and towns with a population under 50,000 who do not receive direct funding from the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Egremont has been a successful grant recipient for several fiscal years. The rehab grant funds allow qualifying low and moderate-income homeowners (owner-occupied single/multi-family and investor-owned units) in Egremont to secure a 0% interest, deferred, forgivable loan to make critical home repairs. Eligible repair activities can include, but not be limited to, electrical, heating, and plumbing work; minor structural repairs; roof and siding repairs; insulation and window replacements; lead paint and asbestos removal; and handicap accessibility improvements.
