Massachusetts statute clearly states absentee or proxy voting is prohibited at an annual or special town meeting. A voter must be present to vote.
The meeting will start at the posted time of 10:00 AM. A quorum of 60 registered Egremont voters must be checked against the voter list before the meeting starts. Check-in will begin at 9:30 AM—plan on coming early to avoid a line and to get a seat. The meeting may start later than 10:00 AM if people still wait in the hall to check in.
At check-in, Egremont, registered voters will be given colored voting cards. Voters will raise these colored cards for a "yay" or "nay" vote for Articles 1, 2, and 3.
For Article 4 (school merger agreement), once the discussion on the article has concluded, Egremont registered voters will again need to check in against the voter list to receive their paper ballot.
The paper ballot for the school merger agreement will have the entire article printed on it with a Yes box (for the merger) and a No box (against the merger) for voters to fill out.
Completed ballots will be inserted into a ballot box by the voter.
The ballot counting will begin after a "last call for voting" has been announced.
The Moderator will announce the outcome of the vote, and if there is no other business, adjourn the meeting.
