Today, August 2, 2022, the Egremont Free Library’s belfry was expertly lowered to the ground, and its bell was removed for storage. Workers discovered the precarious support for the belfry and its imminent failure in line with their work to preserve Egremont’s most significant historical structure (c. 1832). The bell will be stored in the Buildings and Grounds garage. The timing for reuniting the belfry with its bell and installing the two depends on securing additional funding.
